Oh yes, actually the early history of our botany is connected with the names of many European scientists - Edmond Bossier, Viktor Janka, Imre Frivaldzsky, August von Griesebach... But it was out of any doubt professor Velenovsky who first systematically explored the Bulgarian flora. He financed couple of collecting trips to Bulgaria, in some of them he took part himself. And apart of that he had many collaborators in Bulgaria. All this helped prof. Velenovsky to write his magnificient book Flora Bulgarica and the particularly big Supplementum to it. The professor was the first to discover and describe many new for the science Bulgarian plants, including many that are excessively rare. From all of Velenovsky's collaborators Vaclav Stribrnyi was probably the most devoted. Starting as plants collector he quickly become a very good botanist himself. He was running probably one of the best in the country professional school - the Agricultural School in Sadovo - a small village in the vicinity of Plovdiv. This job allowed Stribrny to browse through the countryside and collect plants for prof. Velenovsky. He discovered many of the rarest plants in Bulgaria and many new species, which Velenovsky often named "stribrnyi" to mark the name of his devoted fellow.

To be honest, I would have thought it might be so. It is a species that is never common through its entire range. Pity I haven't got good photos, but it was this single plant and I didn't have much time. Anyway, it was very lucky to find it.
